Starting from a shop, the Egan empire grew to include a brewery, maltings and distillery, and by the 1800s was well known for producing excellent drinks.

However, the downturn of the Irish whiskey industry in the early years of the 1900s and the War of Independence meant that over time the Egan name was lost. In 2013, family members from across the globe came together reform P&H Egan's Limited and launched their first whiskey – Egan's 10 Year Old Single malt – in 2014. More whiskies have followed, and life has been breathed back into a once-large name in the Irish whiskey world.
