These days there are three working distilleries in Campbeltown, of which Springbank is the most successful. The distillery is about three hour’s drive south west from Glasgow on the Mull of Kintyre.
Springbank is one of the most traditional distilleries in Scotland. Family owned, the distillery prides itself on its traditional production methods from malting all of their own barley through to the bottling of whisky, which are still done by hand.
In addition to the whisky named after the distillery, they also produce to other styles:
Longrow was first distilled in 1973. There are three peated expressions in the range: Longrow Peat, Longrow Red and Longrow 18 Year Old.
Hazelburn was released in 1997 and unlike Springbank, it is unpeated and triple distilled, creating a much lighter whisky. There are currently two regular expressions: a 10 Year Old and a 12 Year Old, which are known for their fruity, malty and spicy character.
‘A must-see event, well organised and attended by many nationalities with great knowledge and enthusiasm. Springbank Distillers are proud to showcase our full range of single malts from Springbank, Longrow, Hazelburn, and Kilkerran from our sister distillery Glengyle.’ Grant Macpherson UK group sales executive
