Mars Shinshu is made by the Hombo family who have been distilling for many years, although they only added a blended malt whisky to their portfolio in 1985. Unfortunately, production shut down in 1992 due to low demand, but in 2011 they reopened as the market for Japanese whisky grew.

For a long time they did not export any of their whiskies, as they concentrated on their home market. Today, they export across the world and have gained global recognition, including being awarded World’s Best Blended Malt Whisky by World Whiskies Awards in 2013.
