
The story of Mackmyra, Sweden’s first whisky distillery, famously began with a ski trip in 1998, when eight friends from Stockholm’s Royal Institute of Technology went on holiday together, and all brought bottles of whisky to share. One evening in a hot tub, plans for the Mackmyra building were formed.
Almost 20 years later, the founders are on to their second distillery and sit at the forefront of sustainable and energy-efficient whisky production. Fortunately, they also produce a range of excellent whiskies with local twists on traditional production methods giving them a distinctively Swedish character.
