Kavalan Whisky is renowned worldwide for its high-quality single malts and innovative use of different casks.

As the first and only family-owned whisky distillery in Taiwan, they are unique in their approach to dealing with the sub-tropical climate, creating a range with a wide variety of flavour profiles and consistent smoothness.

Winning 2015’s WWA ‘World’s Best Single Malt’ award and 2016’s ‘World’s Best Single Cask Single Malt’ established Taiwan’s whisky-making credentials, but more recently, Kavalan was named 2021 “Visitor Attraction of the Year” at Whisky Magazine Whisky Icons Awards.

The distillery’s founder spent years searching for the perfect site, and after finding the cold, pure spring water flowing through the Snow Mountain and the cleanest air in the country, Yilan in Northeast Taiwan was chosen as the location for the King Car distillery. Taiwan’s sub-tropical climate also provides Kavalan with another advantage: their whiskies age and mature faster than those produced in different regions across the globe.

Aside from purchasing copper stills from Scotland, Kavalan brought in professional whisky consultant Dr Jim Swan to implement highly specialised distilling and blending and invited a world-class specialist to join its R&D team. These investments in the distillery and its people ensure Kavalan whisky is of the highest standard possible.

The diverse range of whiskies created at Kavalan all start from the same fruity, tropical and precise new make.  From there, the spirit goes into many types of cask, some of which will be kept as single casks and become part of the award-winning, single-cask type Solist range.  Others will be vatted together to create the unique and harmonious whiskies that Kavalan has become known for around the world.
