Many numbers are stated when it comes to how much flavour a cask gives to the spirit maturing within, but casks are complex beasts and there’s a lot more going on than many people realise.
Nurturing them through their long lives to create the world’s finest spirits is an art more than a science, and in this class we’ll be joined by two experts – Bruichladdich head distiller Adam Hannett and Mount Gay rum master blender Trudiann Branker. They’ll talk us through some of the whiskies and rums, specially chosen to show how different casks can be used to guide the flavour and character to their final destination.

Bowmore: A journey Through flavour

In this masterclass, Billy Abbott will be joined by Bowmore distillery manager David Turner to taste through how its whisky has changed over the years. We’ll be comparing the flagship 12yo in its modern and 1980s incarnation, and trying whiskies from the start of the modern era and the divisive 1980s, and finishing up with the legendary Bowmore Bicentenary.
