During his summers at university he made the pilgrimage to Islay where he worked as a tour guide at Ardbeg Distillery. This was a formative experience for Angus which provided ample knowledge, tasting experience and the opportunity to immerse himself in whisky culture. It also kindled his fascination with older style, historic whiskies, an interest which led him into the world of auctioneering. Angus worked as a whisky specialist at two different auction companies before going freelance in 2016 as a consultant and writer. 

Along the way Angus created the Whisky Sponge blog, a satirical and surreal publication which would later form the inspiration for an indy bottling side-project which began in 2018 and quickly evolved into the independent bottling company Decadent Drinks. Alongside his work at Decadent Drinks, Angus is also one of the founders of Kythe Distillery, which aims to make old style malt whisky very much in the same mould as the whiskies that have inspired Angus over the years.
