Kilkerran is the most recent whisky to be produced by Mitchell & Co Ltd, which also own Springbank. The distillery has released a number of limited editions since it (re)opened in 2004, it has recently released an ongoing 12 Year Old to complement its ‘Work in Progress’ series, bottlings that documented the journey to the 12.
Kilkerran's name comes from the Gaelic ‘ceann loch cille chiarain’, the original name for the settlement that grew to become Campbeltown. The distillery doesn't use its own name, Glengyle, for its single malt, as the rights are owned by nearby Campbeltown rivals Glen Scotia.
