The world of whisky is a vast one, stretching from balmy Kentucky to windswept Islay and even to the decidedly cool Nordic countries. This year we are celebrating this distinct region and the distilleries that are redefining the spirits culture there with a dedicated Nordic Zone.

We'll be joined by familiar favourites like Copenhagen, Kyro, Aligator, Stauning and the delightfully named Teerenpeli. But we'll also be joined by some new producers ripe for discovery including Thy, Floki, Bivrost, Feddie Ocean, Myken, Spirit of Hven and High Coast.

As Dawn Davies MW puts it: “This region shares a real sense of shared identity in its whisky – standing for local, sustainable and big flavours, it is a region well worth discovering.”

Agitator – Sweden

Agitator is the distillery behind Sweden’s most popular homegrown whisky as well as other spirits too. All spirits are vacuum distilled at low temperatures, to preserve more flavours, consume less energy and create better drinks. Their signature casks for ageing spirits is the chestnut cask, forbidden in Scottish whisky but enabling amazing results to any spirit.

Bivrost – Norway

Made at the Aurora Distillery, Bivrost is the world’s most northerly whisky. Located at 69°N, deep within the Arctic Circle this is by all accounts a challenging environment to create whisky. The team fully lean into it, using glacial meltwater and Nordic barley, then matured in these extreme artic conditions, this is a spirit with a real sense of place.

Copenhagen – Denmark

Based in Copenhagen, the eponymous, urban distillery is leading the way for Danish spirits.  Always one of the more intriguing and interesting stands at Whisky Show, they are innovators creating both aged and un aged spirits that have a distinctive Danish character.

Eimverk – Iceland

A pioneer in Icelandic whisky, Eimverk  work exclusive with Icelandic grown grain. Inspired by  Icelandic traditions, and the country’s unique flavours, their whiskies offer a style all of their own.

Feddie Ocean – Norway

On the remote island of Fedje, off the rugged Coast of Norway, Feddie Ocean is a women founded and funded distillery. They are certified organic and follow a sustainable programme to create their whisky and aquavit.

High Coast – Sweden

Award-winning Swedish whisky produced on the banks of the Ångermanälven river in Höga Kusten. There is a serious focus on craftsmanship and a commitment to quality which is hevaily influenced by a unique climate. This all comes together for a whisky with a strong character and a distinct Nordic identity.

Kyrö – Finland

A long time favourite with the Whisky Show crowds, Kyrö is a Finnish whisky with real personality. The idea for Kyrö was conceived in sauna, like so many of the best ideas had by Finns. The distillery was established 2014 and since then Kyrö has focused on creating rye whiskies which have included a Whisky Show exclusive.

Myken – Norway

Another strong competitor for the world’s most remote distillery, Myken takes its name from its island home, which has a grand total of 13 inhabitants. Seven are distillery employees. Adding to that remoteness is the intermittent ferry service disrupted by storms and the vagaries of the weather.

Spirit of Hven – Sweden

Located on the picturesque island of Hven in the Öresund Strait between Denmark and Sweden, Spirit of Hven is a family-owned craft distillery. Celebrated for its dedication to quality, innovation, and artisanal spirit-making every bottle tells a story.

Stauning – Denmark

Founded by nine Danish enthusiasts - including a doctor, engineers, a butcher, a chef, a helicopter pilot, and a teacher - is Denmark’s first modern grain-to-glass distillery. Located near the village of Stauning in West Jutland, the distillery embodies New Nordic terroir, using barley, rye, peat, heather, and water - all sourced within a few kilometres of the distillery.

Teerenpeli – Finland

Founded in 2002 in Lahti, Finland, Teerenpeli Distillery is a pioneering force in Finnish whisky production and the largest single malt distillery in Finland. As a family-owned business Teerenpeli is driven by a passion for crafting premium single malt whiskies using only the finest  ingredients and traditional methods.

Thy – Denmark

One of the few genuinely single-estate whisky distilleries, Thy was established on the Gyrup estate on Denmark's west coast, and born from a desire to take the family's barley, spelt and rye, and bring it to life in vibrant, grain forward whiskies. Every step of production is managed on the family estate in a true field-to-bottle business.
