EMS stands for ‘English Market Selection’ and is a term that has been used in Cuba for over a century to identify the quality of cigars designated for the British market. In 1993, Hunters & Frankau introduced the EMS Stamp and since then they have awarded it to all boxes and packs of Havanas that pass an additional UK inspection which is conducted once the cigars have reached their duty paid humidified warehouse.

Over the years Hunters & Frankau have been involved in many aspects of the Havana cigar trade. They once owned the H.Upmann and the Ramon Allones cigar factories as well as the brand rights worldwide. Moreover, they played a central role in the design and launch in the 1930’s of Montecristo – now the world’s best selling Havana brand.

In 1990, Hunters & Frankau were appointed by Habanos S.A. as their Exclusive Distributor for all Havana brands in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Gibraltar and the Channel Islands. Habanos SA is the Cuban company solely responsible for marketing and distributing Havanas throughout the world.

Along with their Cuban partners, Hunters & Frankau offer British cigar smokers the widest choice of the finest quality cigars to suit all tastes and pockets.  Other cigar brands they proudly represent on an exclusive basis in Britain include La Invicta from Honduras and Nicaragua, Don Ramos from Honduras, Villiger from Switzerland and Agio from Holland. They are also the official distributors in the UK for Colibri lighters and accessories.
