Zuidam distillery was started in 1976 by Fred and Hélène van Zuidam in the town of Baarle-Nassau on the Dutch-Belgian border. Specialising in traditional Dutch spirits and liqueurs, the company became well-known in The Netherlands.

Fred and Hélène's children joined the business and in 1996 Patrick, the distillery's general manager, started experimenting with making whisky. Now, twenty years later, the distillery's Millstone range of whiskies are turning heads around the world. Along with a range of single malts, Zuidam also make excellent rye whisky which rivals the whiskey of many American producers.
