The story of Mackmyra, Sweden’s first whisky distillery, famously began with a ski trip in 1998, when eight friends from Stockholm’s Royal Institute of Technology went on holiday together and all brought bottles of whisky to share. One evening in a hot tub later, and plans for the building of Mackmyra were formed.

Now, almost 20 years later, the founders are on to their second distillery, and sit at the forefront of sustainable and energy efficient whisky production. Fortunately, they also produce a range of excellent whiskies, with local twists on traditional production methods giving the whiskies a distinctively Swedish character.
