Founded in 1839, Glen Grant is named after two brothers – John and James Grant. Successful businessmen, they not only understood whisky making but also logistics and were in part responsible for the railway reaching Glen Grant's home of Rothes.
John's son John – commonly known as The Major – took over the business in the 1870s and helped grow it into the distillery we know today, complete with extensive gardens now open for the public to explore.
These days, Glen Grant is run by Dennis Malcolm OBE, who was born at the distillery in 1946, and it continues to impress with a range of whiskies from the young and light – especially popular in Italy – to the old, rich and elegant.
